Most of the rest of the world has exactly the same problems we have here, just to a different degree. Think there isn't rampant racism in France? Ask folks about the 2005 riots or a French Jew about anti-semitism.

But it damn well does matter what other countries think/feel/say/do about us b/c in case it's escaped anyone, we're in a technological age in which world economies are now practically intertwined through global trade, and it all happens in a blink of an eye.

Isolationism, jingoism, nationalism...all a losing formula going forward. It's a new age.

France is a very good example - and definitely cautionary re immigration/assimilation issues. I was blown away by the demographic changes in southern France between 1986 and when I was there 20 years later in 2006.
